I don’t understand the interviewer’s motives. Surely if you were bringing someone like this on, which could only be because you knew most people thought he was a publicity seeking crank and couldn’t resist the car-crash spectacle, you then wouldn’t speak to him in a way that gives him credibility.

  2. fatmammycat Says:

Turbidy must have splinters in his arse from all the fence sitting he was doing. I like how defensive humble Joe gets the minute anyone challenges him woo based bollocks. And plugging his humble book…aw. Just what Ireland needs right now, another fucking mystic with a book- Angels in My hair did a roaring trade.

  3. Twenty Major Says:

Fucking loon. And Coleman’s a basket case too.

  4. fatmammycat Says:

I think Tubridy totally bottled it.

  5. Conan Drumm Says:

I only lasted 70 seconds. “Mystic”, my eye. “Seer”, my arse.

Why is a national public broadcaster oxygenating and feeding this man’s psychiatric pathology, not to mind lending him a credibility that will sway gullible and easily led viewers?

  6. Voodoolady Says:

Did ya see the poor young wan in the audience? She nearly started crying when Joe gave out to her, no-one was really helping her out, Tubs definitely should have done more.

  7. problemchildbride Says:

Galloping God, this is looney! Is this character actually a madman or is he a charlatan with a Mary hook and a book to sell? Or a bit of both?

  8. stipes Says:

” I don’t have an income, I borrowed from the credit union to go to Measure Gorey”
With no income who pays the credit union?

  9. fatmammycat Says:

    ‘can you describe Satan?’
    ‘He’s horrible.’

well that seals the deal for me.

  10. mehal carpenter Says:

let me put my hands up. I am a Catholic. I dont apologise for the fact. I have read Coleman’s book and in all honesty I believe he is genuine. He may not be good on the TV but the stuff in his book is very touching and is completely in line with scriptures. what if he is the REAL thing? would that matter? or are all the views expressed here posted by atheists?

if you are then own up – leave the chap alone. How many of you I wonder would own and say they believe in Jesus? Not many I suspect. Cowards the lot of you. You dont even have to courage to use your real names. You’re pathetic. mehal carpenter

    • Derek A. Dempsey Says:

      Mehal,

I will give you an answer, you are a fool and an infant, you are wrong about Atheist being cowards, its Theists who are cowards, each and every one of them, now all u fools ask at one time of another, “What if you are wrong and there is a god” Well, I will tell him to fuck of, i dont like him and the way he ran his universe etc, and he can shove his heaven and paradise up his arse, if he, as the celestial dictator makes me come in, then i will wreak worse havoc than that bearer of light feller Lucifer, So cop on to your self and stop being an infant

    • mj Says:

      Hi Mehal

i read Joe’s book too and have also wrote to him and received replies. I am Catholic too and believe him completely. I believe in time all people will too. He has such faith and love for Our Lady i have nothing but respect for him and what he does. Joe prays everyday for non believers. i too believe a lot of people do believe Joe but are afraid to admit it . Like i said , in time the world will see.

  11. fatmammycat Says:

Who cares what you believe? I don’t. You’re entitled to your opinion. I expect the same, nothing more nor less. And my opinion is that old humble media loving Joe has been scamming people out of cash for years while being on the scratcher for his ‘disability’.( 60 quid a pop! for readings) And now he’s discovered how to make the artists exemption on tax work for him and his ‘buke’. He’s a fraud and a con man and if you’re too stupid to see that don’t come on here crying about meanies and expect not to have your chain yanked.

Ooooo atheists. Boogey men all round! I’m quite open about my being a non deity follower. So what? What has Jesus got to do with anything? He’s dead as far as I know- been that way for a number of years.
My real name is fatmammycat. It’s right up there on the top of the screen. My address is number 9 Krimmage. Please send me all the money you would other wise have spent on angel cards, ‘holy’ communion and burying dead people in ornate caskets with brass handles.
    Cheers.

  12. Larry Says:

Couldn’t even last through that Turbidy muppet.
One thing that really annoys me about Irish media is the continued use of the term “The Virgin Mary”. It’s the so-called Virgin Mary you tools.
Turbidy compounds the issue by declaring this woman to be “the mother of God”.

As for mehal carpenter, get outta here. If you believe in transubstantiation then you’ll swallow any bullshit.

  13. fatmammycat Says:

Transubstantiation, the gobbling literally of zombie flesh. Weird.

  14. problemchildbride Says:

Mehal, if you want to give your money to the man, go right ahead. I don’t because I think he’s a con-man of the first order. Either that or he is bonkers. There will always be a place for scam artists like him as long as there are people like you. Do what you want with your own money, who gives a toss? That’s your decision and you seem well able to speak your mind. What I do give a toss about is people who can ill afford it, vulnerable people, frightened people made hopelessly credulous by church lies, societal lies, cultural lies and all the confusion of living. To prey on people like that, look them in the eye and take their money is absolutely disgusting. The difference is you think he’s credible, people commenting here do not. We rail against the man, you rail against us with all manner of babbling about Jesus. If you kept your eye on the man himself rather than sidetracking yourself and trying to sidetrack us, you might begin to notice some of the rank insanity of what he’s saying. Scratched to pieces was he? If the devil is the big beastie he says he is surely he can do a bit better than scratching like a 7year old girl. Ah, but God protects him! you might say. Well why doesn’t he do a better job of protecting him and stop the devil from pulling his lip down further on one side than the other or whatever the hell he said happened? He’s God isn’t he? What part of “omni” doesn’t your God get about omnipotence?

  15. not twitter Says:

mehal, he can’t even look the interviewer in the eye when making up an answer and his answers are babbling nonsense, he avoids answering direct questions. He hadn’t even the wit to rehearse answers to questions that might have been raised from things he brought up himself in the interview, i.e. what does the devil look like.

Do I have to believe in Jesus for my views to have credibility? You seem to be suggesting so.
Cowardice? My views are the same whether written on the web or spoken. The pseudonym is just for privacy.

  16. The religious spectacular « 53 degrees Says:

[...] the first time in several years. FMC – to the pre-2007 bloggers – posted recently that she thought Joe Coleman is mad. Yes, that Joe Coleman: the man from Ballyfermot who draws scores of people to Knock in Mayo to [...]

  17. fatmammycat Says:

Joe is far from catholic when he peddles his wares.

  18. fatmammycat Says:

I have called Joe Coleman out on his bogus woo for a long time now – and any other ‘psychic’, or mind reader or animal telepath I happen to come across – not through fear of being like them, but through genuine dislike of hucksters and self important snake oil peddlers who make money off the pain and wishful thinking of others ( something I have witnessed first hand and which colours my thinking on the subject).
I don’t however cross over to the blogs of the faithful and deride them for their beliefs, I do not berate religious people for attending mass or whatever place of worship they attend. But neither will I tolerate blow hards wandering into my space and calling me a coward for having and stating my opinion. I have, believe it or not, Christian readers, readers with whom I can respectfully have discourse.
Had ‘Mehal” said, ‘I am a catholic I believe him’ no one, least of all me would have torn a strip off him. But he did not, he made the USUAL blundering ‘ you are all cowards blah blah big fat meanies…’ wail of the much offended. Well too bad that he was offended. No one gets the right to go through life unoffended. I’m offended by lots of stuff. Hucksters for one, so hello Dolly here we are, back at the starting gate.

  19. Eoin Says:

Why are you so angry all of the time?

  20. fatmammycat Says:

    I’m not. Next question?

  21. Eoin Says:

There is little doubt that you have Christian readers with whom you can discourse respectfully. And lots of my readers are vegetarians. That’s not my point.

Calling out Joe’s woo as “mad” brings with it certain ways of thinking about who and what is sane and who that includes and excludes. As problematic as Mehal’s protestations is, your assertion that “no one gets the right to go through life unoffended” is largely irrelevant.

  22. fatmammycat Says:

You attempts to define what are and are not points of relevancy are duly noted, considered and disagreed with.
If you have a problem with my finding the individual Joe Coleman as mad a box of badgers so be it, but I doubt it arises from an intellectual mental health concerned position.
I find this charlatan reprehensible, that I do so is no reason to be offended or unoffended. It simply is what I think.
If you think it’s more plausible that Joe Coleman sees and chats with Mary mother of Christ, ghosts, dead people and Satan and has fisticuffs with said demon, than is say a pretty nutty but coniving conman, then you are, like Mehal, perfectly entitled to do so. I am not the captain of your thoughts. No one is demanding you think differently. Or demanding you shut up about it for that matter.

  23. mike the american Says:

I’m a catholic. I believe in God. I believe that Jesus is who the Church says he his. And I believe Joe is psychotic or a fraud. I can hold all these ideas in my mind with no problem whatsoever. The issue is not whether any of us is a believer or not. The issue is whether this Joe Coleman is a fraud or loon. From what I have read about saints and the saintly, they don’t charge people sixty bob to give their advice and counsel. Charisms of any type are gifts from God to the faithful, to be used to better the lives of the faithful and to strengthen the Church. And the Church is very clear that individuals who possess these gifts are not to profit personally from their use. We have lots and lots of guys like this in the States. The difference between Joe Coleman and most of them is that Joe is not as slick, and he may be mentally ill. Not to mention that he looks like he has a nose for the bottle and he has a reputation for unpleasantness that goes hand in hand with long term alcohol abuse.

He seperates the gullible, the frightened and the lonely from what little money they probably have, and he will find himself sitting pretty for an eternity in one of Dante’s hells for the trouble he has caused. His behavior is despicable and any Roman Catholic who evaluates this guy and thinks he is sincere has shit for brains and will believe absolutely anything.

  24. daniel Says:

i was at mount melleray today where i have been going every month for the past 15 years im 28 and from dundalk, today when i arrived joe coleman was there, talking at the top of his voice to people looking for all the attention, i and others where trying to pray and couldnt reallyy concentrate, i over heard him saying our lady appeared to him on the train down, NUT, he got barred from knock now he is going down to this special place looking for attention, how come she only appears to him where other people got visions, and where people have faith, he was talking about our blessed mother with a fag in his mouth,, some visionary, HE IS A FRAUD, and WILL be kicked out of melleray forr been so,

    • mehal carpenter Says:

Daniel just wondering why you have lied? Joe Coleman did not travel by train to Mt Mellery. I know this for a fact. You are a sad mealy mouthed crank and it is obvious that you were not there as you claim.

Interesting that you claim you were trying to pray. So why were you there all the way from Dundalk as you claim if you did not go there to see Joe Coleman. And during the middle of the week when no one goes to mt melleray? No, dont think you were there. No, dont think you pray. No, don’t think you have any kind of religious belief because if you did you would not treat people so cruelly without any foundation.

  25. fatmammycat Says:

Is he barred from Knock though? I had not heard. Either way, of course he’s a fraud. She’s popping up on the train now? Dear oh dear. Bonkers and crafty.

  26. Brian Says:

    Attn : mehal carpenter,

Mehal I read his book as well. I too believe he is genuine. I will join joe in Melleray in January if I have a chance, ( have not done so yet) . My interest is not so much the man, as the content of the messages and their ability to turn people back to God. His messages are doing just that. I have seen it. The rest of the bloggers are only focussed on attacking the messenger Joe Coleman, without giving any conclusive arguements or views on the content of the messages. Sorry to say but Fatmammy cat, daniel and the rest of them smell of fear.

Mehal I am all for discussion, but it should be on the content of the messages. If the messages are false and not in line with Bible scripture let the bloggers show and prove they are false, other wise all they are doing is using these forums to gangip and harass and bully individuals,

  27. fatmammycat Says:

Smell of fear, what are you rabbiting on about. The man is clearly a fraud. He used to do palm reading for christ’s sake but was smart eought to move onto something more lucrative. Something that he can use to milk more money from unsuspecting people- like you. As for ‘turning people back to god’ if you believe in a god you’ll believe in a god regardless of what Joe Coleman might fart out. More mumbo jumbo in my book but best of luck to you if you need an invisible deity in your life to give it meaning.

  28. Derek A. Dempsey Says:

God?????? Define God and show proof positive, you cant you never will and you know it but its YOU and the likes of you who fear and this same fear causes you to believe in anything that comforts you and makes you feel better than the creatures in your garden or the so called sinners who DONT believe, to believe in something bases on here-say, conjecture and second hand news proves without a doubt you are possibly insane or at best self delusional, don waste your time asking me to prove there is no god, one cant call upon one to prove a negative. Wake up, accept who we are in this universe and what we call time, we are merely a blink and will be gone in that same blink like the dinosaurs and other living things that we in our arrogance dont even know existed Now briefly on Joe Coleman, If you have half a human lie radar you will see from the onset that he is mentally unwell, a liar and self deceiver and a demagogue if he is smart enough to be the last one, I actually feel sorry for him i really do.

    Derek

  29. Brian Says:

Well famammycat if you are an athiest , then your responses and vicious attacks, are to be expected. i am Roman Catholic, a believer in God and my instincts and years of reading the bible tell me Joe is on the level. I dont need to see crosses in the sky or the apparition of the blessed virgin to be convinced, these signs are for convincing the athiests, as Joe himself said. I knew from the start when i read the first messages it was real. I dont feel sorry for Joe, I admire the man , for speaking publicly on some thing he has experienced. There are other visionaries, but because of ridicule from these blog sites they are afraid to come forward and openly support Joe.
I will join the next apparition in Knock in January/ Feb and regardless of what i see or dont see, i will post back on this website what ever takes place. I ask all of you one thing, consider the possibility the messages are real. Sit down and read all his messages and come back and tell me that the same Joe Coleman seen on the late alate show was able to concoct and fabricate these messages. You will see he couldnt have, you said your self , he is not clever enough to do it. Leading you to the same conclusion I have , thats its all real.

    • fatmammycat Says:

Don’t use special pleading to try build your case here. A LOT of us atheists have read the bible cover to cover and see it for the collection of stories and jumbled myths it is. But as you are trying to use it to support your fanciful belief, know this, what Joe Coleman used to do before deciding to play the visonary card was hold seances and a line in fortune telling, ALL strictly forbidden in the bible. Tell me this now, why would ‘Mary’ choose a man who blatently broke god’s laws to spread her message, such as it is? When you apply a touch of critical thinking the holes they grow wider and deeper.
That said, you’re more than welcome to pop back along and give us your unblinkered view whenever you like, us vicious atheists are pretty decent that way.

  30. Derek A. Dempsey Says:

Brian, You are wrong! the bible is a work of fiction translated from Aramaic beginning with word of mouth and hearsay and false testimony, all preserved to keep the masses happy down in the pits of life and allow the leaders of the catholic religion to hide behind this fallacy and rape children victimize women in their extreme misogyny, wake up and be a man, be brave and question life, the unexamined life is not worth living, You actually sicken me and fill me with pity at the same time, sicken me because you are paving the way for more of the abuse inflicted on the children of this world by fools like you , parents who trust a stranger based on something they have no proof off and are to scared to go against the grain and would rather have their children mentally enslaved by this foolishness, wake up and stop being the voice that allows so much pain i this world, just be good to others and treat people with respect and decency, if you continue believing in something that you can not even come close to proving then you are guilty of the next abuse of women men and children by these organized religions. Guilty and shame is upon you Brian

Consider this quote from a great mind………

the devil and a friend of his were walking down the street, when they saw ahead of them a man stoop down and pick up something from the ground, look at it, and put it away in his pocket. The friend said to the devil, “What did that man pick up?” “He picked up a piece of Truth,” said the devil. “That is a very bad business for you, then,” said his friend. “Oh, not at all,” the devil replied, “I am going to let him organize it.”

PS not to be taken literally and Do you actually know what Atheist means???

    • fatmammycat Says:

People like Brian who proudly declare themselves Roman Catholic make me laugh a little. As a woman, the very notion of belonging to a hateful organisation like the RC- not to be mixed up ith the CC- is beyond me, like declaring proudly you’re a member of the KKK.

  31. derek A. Dempsey Says:

Very well and concisely said Fatmammycat,Also, to add another word to these types of people, Cowards I would cal them

    Derek

    • fatmammycat Says:

Thank Derek, the irony of people coming here to my blog and getting antsy about what I write about while pretending to be oppressed is too delicious to ignore sometimes.

      • derek A. Dempsey Says:

I agree with you and this brought a smile to me face,

When they said things like this ” I am a believer in God and my instincts and years of reading the bible tell me Joe is on the level” I read it as this!!
“I a believer in Fantasy and my instincts and years of reading the Si Fi Novel tell me Sick Man is on the level” I cant get past this.
I think to myself, humans have the capacity to see logic, we see it everyday when making tea but NOT putting our hands in the cp of boiling water because we know logic says burn, but they completely throw it out the window on such an issue and I see the logic in this actually, they cant really be harmed, imagine asking them to wager a bed, say if you cant prove the existence of a god in 6 months then hand will be chopped off, watch millions backpedal and say well, eh? I never , Oh Oh let me think I dont say…. well Its not like that etc etc. If at least one had the conviction of their beliefs in actually reality I would respect them, i really would.

        D

      • fatmammycat Says:

Heh, they’d just move the goal posts and say ‘god doesn’t work that way’ .
        Of course not.
I would wager that an awful lot of people who swear allegiance to a creator god have never read the bible, because frankly anyone who worships a murderous, vindictive, capricious dictator like the god of the bible actually need their heads examined.

  32. Brian Says:

Well done to all of you , at least you have moved to attacking me and not Joe Coleman, so something good has come from all this. I feel better all ready.

    • derek Says:

well said Fatmammycat, as always, logic is your true companion!

I pity you Brian, i really do, you are delusional and like all zealots you deflect and move away from the subject as soon as you are cornered and have no argument for the logic you are faced with, if you could actually answer some of the questions maybe there would be a level of respect, instead you just go with the persecution and “god works in mysterious way” story
be true to your self and admit that you really DONT know there is anything beyond this life

      Derek

  33. fatmammycat Says:

Ah look, another woo believer with a persecution complex. Ah, cute. You do realise you come here, right? No one is chasing you around the place with pitchforks of logic.

You do realise, oh proud CC member, that your own church does not support this nutjub?

  34. Brian Says:

Happy new year to you all,

  35. fatmammycat Says:

    Indeed, happy new year.
