Findings at Gerry Ryan Inquest.

“The inquest in the death of RTÉ broadcaster Gerry Ryan has heard that traces of cocaine found in his system were the likely trigger to a cardiac arrhythmia that resulted in his death.
A coroner said that Mr Ryan’s heart was normal, but he said traces of cocaine were found in his system during toxicology tests carried out at Beaumont Hospital and at the State Laboratory.
He said that alcohol levels in Mr Ryan’s system were nowhere near the level that would cause complications.

Mr Ryan, 53, was found dead at his apartment at Upper Leeson Street in Dublin on 30 April.
Earlier, the partner of TV and radio presenter Gerry Ryan denied that he used cocaine in the hours before his death.
Melanie Verwoerd was speaking at the inquest for the RTÉ broadcaster at the Dublin City Coroner’s Court.
Asked by Coroner Brian Farrell if ‘cocaine was ever an issue’, Ms Verwoerd said ‘absolutely not’.
Ms Verwoerd said one of the ground rules of their relationship was that drugs were not acceptable. She said in the two years they were together nothing had been used.
Ms Verwoerd said that the pressures of finalising his separation from his wife Morah, as well as enormous pressure from RTÉ and his work, had begun to take a toll on Mr Ryan.
She said that he was constantly waking in the middle of the night, sweating and feeling very unwell.”

I have just emailed my pal, who is France, the news. She will be shocked beyond belief. I can’t say that I am.

Can’t say I’m shocked either – Still a shitty way to go

Will the findings of the inquest conclude “Death by misadventure”?

  2. fatmammycat Says:

I believe that’s what they went with.

“Earlier, the partner of TV and radio presenter Gerry Ryan denied that he used cocaine in the hours before his death.”

Either this is inaccurate reporting or it suggests circumstances that are not in the public domain. It would be potentially very injurious to her professional reputation if it were suggested that his drug use and her presence were contemporaneous.

  4. fatmammycat Says:

Yeah, that’s odd Conan, I took her previous statement to mean she knew nothing of his drug use, but that seems to be a more direct to her.

The Sindo are already doing a hard sell for their ‘tragic Gerry’ stories on Sunday.

The hypocricy in the media around cocaine is sickening, I bet there’s a good fifty very well-known people who could tell us who his dealer was.

I just heard the indo ad a few minutes ago while I was having dinner, Gerry how could you or some bollocks. 3rd anno of Kathy French too, they’ll have a field day with this.

I’m aghast that you are promoting this kind of despicable speculation about a death. I suggest that you get back on your self obsession about your kilometers run and your kicks kicked and your other silly crunchy stupidity . A man is dead, let it be.

      Douche.

    • fatmammycat Says:

Quick, reach for the smelling salts! Aghast attack!

Seriously Paulo, grow up. No on is speculating on anything, you bumpkin. This is what the inquest found. So yeah, the man is dead. Drugs contributed to his death. No speculation. Don’t you feel stupid now? Wanna come for a run, clear your little head?

  8. paulo1 Says:

I was just talking about showing respect for the deceased and their family. What exactly is a bumpkin and how do I merit that label? No, I don’t feel stupid; in fact your slightly frantic response reassures me that you may have written that piece without really thinking it through. In what sense should I grow up? I’d love to go for a run with you but I’m afraid that we’d get to arguing so much that we’d end up in a middle of the road toe to toe slugging match and I’d come out the loser. Can’t have that on my record. Finally I’d like you to know that I proudly wear a size 8 hat so let’s have no more references to my little head.

  9. fatmammycat Says:

Yes, but you want me to show respect, yet I showed no disrespect for him, only reported what the inquest finding was. No mocking, not even personal diatribe or coment. So no, my response was not in any way ‘frantic’ as I suspect your ‘OMG AGHAST!’ one was.
    * we can still run though, folk cannot argue when out of breath*

  10. paulo1 Says:

O.K. here’s the deal. I didn’t use that hideous acronym OMG that you’re attributing to me but I did go overboard with the ‘aghast’ . I was in a bit of a mood. Let’s call it Even Steven and go our separate ways until I read your next blog. That’s what it’s all about really, isn’t it?

  11. Angry Nonny Says:

I have to say I had a “Can you separate the person from the deed” moment on Friday, all in all I was a fan of Mr Ryan. Without a shadow of a doubt he went all out to help a wide circle of people. And even if his initial objective was to secure ratings he did have genuine good intentions, a person simply could not spend a career that spanned nearly 30 years masked behind the facade of a “good man” without actually having a good heart to start with. I don’t believe in glorifying people in death but if for nothing else but the following I will always have a plesant regards for him, http://www.independent.ie/national-news/girl-15-bound-and-gagged-by-boys-in-schoolyard-attack-1300500.html

However, for once in a her life Ms Power finally makes sense, he only had himself to blame and he was a hypocrite. That doesn’t mean we’ll forget the good he done, it just means he will also make us remember that coke is bad as is hypocrisy. My problem with the man today is that the only fucking paper in the shops today without him spead across the front page is the Business Post but even that gave in after the first page. Fucking ridiculous.

he was a bright star that lit our sky

  13. fatmammycat Says:

He didn’t light my sky, I never listened to him and disliked his show.

Don’t know if you’ve seen this – http://wheelspinninghamsterdead.com/ – made me laugh. Not sure if Paulo1 will be aghast again…
