Jehovah’s Witness willing to sacrifice son to faith.

January 13, 2011

I do not understand how any parent could put their faith in woo before the welfare of their seriously ill and dying child. I just do not understand it. The court had to intervene and save this child’s life while his own parents were willing to let him die. Seriously, how fucked up mentally do you need to be to think letting your baby die is the right choice?

What would you do in an attack?

January 13, 2011

Gun talk is high on the agenda in America, after the killing rampage of Jared Loughner in Arizona. Should guns be so easily available? What about constitution? Is it not the right of every American to bear arms? What would banning guns do? Crooks don’t follow law, so banning guns might mean nothing but responsible folk suddenly find themselves weapon free when in dire need. I’d hate to think what might have happened to that poor lady, Donna Jackson, who shot a crazed intruder last year, had she not been armed.

Over coffee this morning I read an interesting case in Florida where a man ( Thomas Baker) out jogging late at night was attacked by two youths who wanted to mug him. He took a blow to the face, then with a cut lip and blurred vision he feared for his life, took out his legally held gun and shot one of the muggers an 18-year-old by the name Carlos Musteller, hitting him 4 times and killing him. However Prosecutors ruled the case ‘justifiable homicide’ and have said that Baker will not face any charges.

Evidence from the other mugger backs Baker’s story,

“The teen told police Mustelier decided he wanted to rob Baker, telling him: ‘I’m going to bam him.. I’m gonna knock him out.’

Baker told investigators he was suddenly confronted by Mustelier who punched him in the face.

With his lip cut and suffering blurred vision he said he pulled out a handgun that was fitted with a laser sight and fired eight times

Mustelier was hit four times with hollow pointed bullets fired from the .45calibre weapon.

The 16-year-old told police he fled but remembers seeing Mustelier standing in the road with a red laser dot sight on his chest.

Baker, who had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, immediately called police after the shooting last November and stayed with the dying teen.

Later during a five-hour interview with police he said he feared Mustelier was armed.”

It’s hard to imagine what when through the man’s head when he was assaulted, but the bottom line is had Mustelier  NOT instigated this he would be alive and well and Mr Baker would not have been dragged through the courts. Reactions are weird things and dependent on a lot of factors, a guy I know was mugged over Christmas and had two teeth broken in the attack. He’s a big guy and strong as an ox, but he says himself he totally froze and by the time he even realised what was going on he was on the floor with a mouth full of blood. Horrendous.  The paramour got mugged one night long ago in his youth, again a big man- although to be fair he was probably much smaller then- he was set upon, head butted, knocked down and robbed. Horrid, and he was very shook up afterwards. I’ve been grabbed in a sexual assault when I was about 19 or 20 and did absolutely nothing except walk on in a daze, disbelieving and in shock over what had just occurred.

I think most of us freeze when the unthinkable occurs, it’s a natural reaction.

Mr Baker did not freeze, he took out his weapon and shot his attacker. Had he not had his gun his assault could have been worse and he would be out all the money he was carrying for his day’s work. He reacted toa  situation not of his own making.

In all honestly I cannot blame the man.

What would you have done?
